Sheldon Gibbs, P.E.
Principal Engineer, Axum Consulting & Engineering. Nearly 30 years of civil, structural and forensic engineering across municipal, commercial, industrial and high-density residential work in Florida.
From the drawing board to the job site
Sheldon began his career as a designer. He then took that design knowledge into the field, performing inspections for structural load ratings, and went on to traditional construction inspection, construction materials testing and, ultimately, construction oversight.
Along the way he managed FDOT and special projects at Ellis & Associates, sealing reports on soils, concrete and materials and making foundation recommendations from geotechnical data. For 17 years he co-owned and led the Gibbs Group, delivering civil and structural design, inspections, as-built certifications and quality control on commercial, municipal and residential projects.
Since 2013 he has investigated hurricane, wind, fire, water and settlement damage as a forensic consultant to several regional engineering firms, writing reports and giving testimony. He has also overseen engineering and construction management for major public works, including riverfront bulkhead replacements, stormwater pump stations and bridge rehabilitation.
That progression is the point. He knows how a structure is designed, how it is supposed to be built and tested, and how to tell when it wasn't. He founded Axum Consulting & Engineering to give condominium associations, HOAs, insurers, adjusters, restoration contractors and attorneys direct access to that experience, and he attends every field walkthrough himself.
